Googling Naughty

I create elearning for my job. I make videos, movies, tutorials, CBTs (computer-based training), WBTs (web-based training), or whatever it is we eventually agree to call these things. And, I've got four kids.

So, naturally, I googled the term naughty.

Let me explain. Betsey and I had a successful parenting day on Saturday, urging our oldest (5 1/2) to improve her behavior with our calm spirits and consistent voices. And a few time-outs thrown in the mix. We were imagining our award from Parenting Magazine during one of the quiet time-outs, when the elearning teacher in me had an "Aha" moment.

Why not create a little module for the kids? Why not use the vast tools of technology and web 2.0 to show my little girl the difference between naughty and nice behavior? Yes indeed. So I fired up Google and started to find images for my video.

I found some nice emotion pictures—we want our daughter to talk about feelings instead of acting-out, confused by the emotions. Then I found some good pictures of fighting—yeah, our kids do that. But it was when I googled naughty—with the search engine set to images—that the real fun began.

Naughty-or-nice

Let's just say that not all the pictures were of Santa Clause checking his list. There were three things I was thankful for right away.

  1. I wasn't at work.
  2. My wife didn't walk in.
  3. I googled something else before the kids ran into the room.

I've just realized how that last item can be interpreted in a few ways. I'll clear it up: I searched a new term: time-outs.
